Born in Busan, South Korea and grew up in Gangwon-do near the Korean border, Daejeon, Incheon, and Seoul, Louis Euiyop Jung now lives and works in Paris.
Jung studied « Clothing and textile » at Busan National University and later Hanyang University in Seoul. Upon arriving in Paris in 2017, Jung worked in visual merchandising and street casting photography.
His time in France sparked as well his interest in cinema, leading him to set up the ciné-club « Les Exilés du Cinéma Coréen, 대한 영화의 추방자들 » at the independant cinema « Le Brady » in Paris. He subsequently enrolled in evening courses in scenography at the École Professionnelle Supérieure des Arts Graphiques and at the École Boulle, allowing him to launch his career as a production designer.
Since then, Jung has been involved in various projects alternating between narrative, experimental and documentary-fiction as a production and/or costumes designer with directors such as Mélanie Matranga, Philippe Safir, Geoffroy Dedenis, Ina López, Xin Wang, Lucas Gloppe, Samuel Ourabah, Inès Clivio..
He has also had the opportunity to work alongside production designer Jean-Michel Bertin as 1st assistant/set decorator for luxury fashion brands like Cartier, Chanel, Le Monde d’Hermès and Louis Vuitton..
In parallel, Jung practices the Japanese artisanal technique Kintsugi, treating ceramic, glass, wood and stone pieces. He approaches restoration in a philosophical manner, considering it not only a way to document priceless objects of sentimental value that people bring to him, whether they are related to friendship, family, love or others, but also a form of meditation, as a consequence of its naturally slow and calming process, which is contrary to his dynamic rhythm in the audiovisual field.
